TouchMath Impact: Empowering Alabama's Students in Math

Grounded in Research. Proven in Classrooms. Driven by Innovation.

Congratulations, Alabama teachers and coaches, on increased math scores, following the implementation of SB171, The Alabama Numeracy Act! Let’s continue the progress and focus on Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions, special education resources, and comprehensive dyscalculia screening and support.

TouchMath is a supplemental, explicit, and systematic multisensory math program tailored for students who need support with foundational math and abstract concepts. From preschool through transition, TouchMath aligns with state and extended standards and is used in special education settings across the country. Whether in self-contained, resource, or inclusion classrooms, it’s effective in Tier 2 and Tier 3 support.

SB171: Understanding the Alabama Numeracy Act

The Alabama Numeracy Act (SB171) aims to boost math proficiency in students through strategic interventions. It focuses on early identification of those 1-2 grade levels behind using validated screening tools, enabling targeted support. The act promotes a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) for individualized assistance and regular progress monitoring. It aligns with Alabama Standards, prioritizes evidence-based practices, and supports data-driven decision-making. The Act also emphasizes teacher-led instruction with hands-on manipulatives, addresses learning disabilities like dyscalculia, and highlights the need for ongoing professional development for teachers to improve math instruction.

Pre- and Post-Assessments

TouchMath pre-and post-assessments allow educators to understand students’ existing knowledge and identify areas that need improvement before beginning a new unit.

Scaffolded Learning with Self-Fading Resources

Curriculum Deficiency or Dyscalculia?

At TouchMath, we’ve spent 50 years creating intentional learning experiences for vulnerable students nationwide. In response to the need for accessible screening, we developed the fully-subsidized DySc screener, enabling educational teams to assess dyscalculia risk factors. This led to tailored instruction and the Dyscalculia Extension, helping students achieve grade-level math proficiency. As pioneers of the research-proven TouchMath methodology, we offer innovative, evidence-based resources specifically designed for students with dyscalculia.
