The Upper Grades Standards Edition Unit 9 (Measurement, Geometry & Data) moves into more advanced levels of previously learned concepts. The eight modules provide explicit instruction, guided practice, meaningful repetition, and application of the concepts. This unit covers 2-D shapes, lines and angles, perimeter, area, volume, time money, and distance. Operational thinking and automaticity through sustained practice and explicit instruction are used to support instruction and learning. Universal Design for Learning is used to help students connect to materials and instruction through multiple means of representation, action, expression, and engagement. Formal testing procedures are reinforced helping the students become accustomed to a mixture of writing answers and bubbling answers. A variety of questioning styles are used in the pre- and post-tests.
